Issuing Passes

Here we will describe how to create passes withing Studio. Can can, of course, also use the API to create your passes.
Test passes
Section titled “Test passes”When designing your templates it is important to issue some test passes to inspect your work on real devices. Whilst our visual editor provides a very realistic representation of how your passes will look on Apple and Google devices, it is not 100% accurate.
The quickest way to issue a test pass is to use the sample data used by the editor / preview. However, you can also create a data file with alternative data for your test passes.
Live passes
Section titled “Live passes”In order to issue live passes you will need to prepare a data file whether you are issuing them through Studio or via the API.
You can provide data in JSON, CSV or MS Excel format within Studio. For the API, your data must be in JSON format.
Data format
Section titled “Data format”There is no fixed format for how your data should look. That is all down to how you define your data structure in the Sample data editor and how you setup your pass template.
The best way to ensure that you create your data files correctly is to download the sample data and use it as a reference. On the issue passes page you’ll see a download icon next to the Sample Data title. Click that then select the format you are most comfortable working with.
Issuing passes
Section titled “Issuing passes”With your datafile handy, step through the process:
-
Live or test passes
Section titled “Live or test passes”Click the button to indicate whether you wish to issue a live or a test pass
-
Select data source
Section titled “Select data source”If you selected test then you will have an option to use the sample data or to upload a data file
If you selected live then you must upload a data file
-
Review pass
Section titled “Review pass”If you uploaded a data file then it is shown alongside the sample data. This is your opportunity to compare the two to ensure you have not made any inadvertant changes.
An incorrect data file will probably not prevent your passes from being issued, they will just not contain the values you expect…
-
Create passes
Section titled “Create passes”The view will change to show a table of results. Large numbers of passes will be created in batches and the table will update from time to time until all have been created.
Results
Section titled “Results”As with all our data tables, you can filter, search and download data.
The results grid will list the Pass ID, along with an Apple and Google install link. If there was a problem creating a pass the an error message will be shown.
You can click one of the links to copy the content. You can then past it into a browser, email etc.
Click the [CLOSE] button to return to the issue form.
